Blog: Do You Need a Business Card?

Although not used nearly as much as they used to be, businesses cards are still a vital part of the marketing and connecting process. It allows people to have a tangible connection to you and even if they end up tossing it after they input your information, its still an extra piece of the puzzle that allows you to stand out from the rest.
I remember, years ago, when I figured out how to have a QR code that when scanned, created a contact card on people’s phones. I thought it would be revolutionary and make life so much easier. But as it turns out a scan leaves no lasting impression. You can’t feel the texture of a thick, velvet stock. You don’t see the fine typography in just the right place. You don’t see the pop of color that draws the eye. It’s scanned and lost in a sea of other contacts.
A business card then is a key that opens the door to a possible lasting connection. You can have a friendly face, a nice demeanor, and a great personality to get things started but to help people remember actually who you are, a business card still has its place. They take it from you after your initial meet, have a quick impression, and pack it away. Later they find it in a coat pocket and remember you. They think maybe I should file it away but it remains on the desk. Later they see it again and remember you again. Even if they finally toss the card having input your info into their phone, you’ve made 2 or 3 more connections simply by them having your business card.
